A new update is rolling out, bringing Gemini AI to Google Messages. After successfully integrating AI into Gmail, Google is now extending this functionality to its messaging app, a move announced over a week ago. While the feature is not yet widely available, users can expect to receive it soon.
Gemini AI in Google Messages?
Gemini AI, previously a standalone app on Android, is now seamlessly integrated into the Google Messages app. This integration allows users to access AI capabilities directly within their messages, enabling them to ask questions or give instructions without needing to leave the app. The convenience of having AI at your fingertips enhances the overall user experience, making communication more efficient and intuitive.
With the update, a new floating action button will appear above the “Start chat” button in the lower-right corner of the app. This button provides quick and easy access to Gemini AI, allowing users to interact with the AI service effortlessly.
It’s important to note that Gemini AI does not read your private conversations. However, chats with the AI chatbot are not end-to-end encrypted. Users should exercise caution with the information they share with Gemini. By default, your chat history with Gemini is stored for up to 18 months.
Users have the option to extend this period to 36 months or reduce it to just 3 months, offering flexibility in data management. Additionally, Gemini AI does not track your precise location but uses your general location based on your IP or home address to provide relevant information.
