AI wallpapers are a new Android feature that allows you to use your words and ideas to create fresh and original wallpapers. This guide will show you how to create your own AI wallpaper on your Android phone.
What are AI Wallpapers on Android
AI wallpapers on Android are a new feature in Android 14 and higher models. They enable users to create custom wallpapers using text prompts. Utilizing generative AI technology, you can easily transform user-inputted text into fresh and unique images. Whether you use your own words or choose from various options available on the screen, you get a personalized wallpaper of your preferences.
On supported Android 14+ devices, the new feature uses Google’s text-to-image diffusion model to generate unique wallpapers. As the feature is currently not supported on a majority of Android devices, you can make use of other alternative ways to generate similar AI-based wallpapers.

How to Create AI Wallpapers in Android 14
1. Android 14 Pixel Models
At the moment, generative AI wallpapers in Android are only available with a few Android 14 models, namely the Pixel 8 and Pro. If you have these devices, follow the simple steps shown below to add a new AI wallpaper for Android. For other Pixel devices, follow the steps in the section below related to the other Android 14 devices.
On a Pixel device which supports the new feature of AI wallpapers, first unlock your phone. Tap and hold an empty space on your home screen. Select Settings -> Wallpaper & Style -> More wallpapers -> AI Wallpaper. Choose any AI theme from the list.
To explore more theme ideas, select Inspire Me at the bottom. To create a custom AI Android wallpaper based on your own preferences, click any underlined word in the prompt which will reveal additional options. Make your selection here.
After the image is chosen, click Create wallpaper to have your own AI wallpaper for Android. You can save it to your home screen and lock screen now.

2. Other Android 14+ Phones
Other Android 14+ phones from various brands also support a similar interface for AI wallpapers, akin to the one found in Google Pixel’s Android 14 model. But you’ll need to download Google’s official APK file for AI Wallpapers.
When downloading, you might see a message that says File might be harmful. Just go ahead and click Download anyway to save the APK on your phone.
After downloading the APK, the system will ask you whether you want to install the app. Click Install to proceed. If you haven’t done it before, you may also need to change your phone’s settings to install apps from unknown sources.
After a while, the app will be installed on your device. From your device Settings, give the app any and all permissions it needs to set up wallpapers on your device. You can now use it to create and change AI wallpapers, just like it’s done on supported Pixel devices.

How to Create AI Wallpapers in Older Android Version
If you’re using a slightly older Android version, it will not get the support to generate AI wallpapers automatically. However, there are alternative methods to achieve the same results.
