AAP video showing Modi’s ‘new big mansion’ is AI-generated

The Aam Aadmi Party shared a three-minute video of a luxurious mansion, claiming that it shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new residence. The video shows various elements inside the mansion, attributing price tags to each — such as Rs 20 crore for the fountain, Rs 400 crore for the marble, and Rs 6,700 crore for shoes.

AAP’s official X account shared this video with the caption, “Big breaking. A video of the Rajmahal has been revealed for the first time. Is this why the gates of the Rajmahal are not open for the public? (translated from Hindi).” The post garnered over 5,01,000 views, more than 3,400 comments, and over 2,400 reposts. The video has been shared ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for 5 February, amid political sparring between the incumbent AAP and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). AAP used the word “Rajmahal” (royal palace) to describe Modi’s residence in New Delhi, alleging it was built at the cost of Rs 2,700 crore. This is counter to the BJP’s “Sheesh Mahal” (palace of mirrors) jibe against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, whom the BJP has accused of spending crores to renovate his official residence before stepping down as chief minister.

However, the video shared by AAP is not real; it is AI-generated.

What did we find?

We examined the video and found some discrepancies, which indicated that it is AI-generated. The opening visual of the fountain shows an unnatural flow of water.

Secondly, the structure behind the fountain and the shape of the tree in front of the building changes as this same visual reappears at the 03:16 mark.

At 0:33 seconds, we can see a shelf filled with shoes and a portion of the brown shoe is missing, indicating digital manipulation.

Additionally, at 2:14 minutes and 2:33 minutes in the video, a small logo appears in the bottom right corner. A comparison confirmed that the logo belongs to Sora AI, OpenAI’s video generation tool, which creates videos based on text prompts.

Some of the discrepancies in the viral video indicate it was artificially generated. (Source: X)Some of the discrepancies in the viral video indicate it was artificially generated. (Source: X)

We also ran the video through the online detection tool Hive Moderation, which showed that it is 99 percent likely to be AI-generated.
