OpenAI’s Sora 2 is once again being misused.
The feature has led to users creating AI-generated videos through its model, which the company claims is “accurate, realistic, and more controllable than prior systems,” as

previously told you.
The feature was called out by Dr. Bernice A. King, the daughter of the late Martin Luther King Jr., which prompted OpenAI, founded by Sam Altman, to stop users from creating deepfake videos of the Civil Rights activist.
“The Estate of Martin Luther King, Jr., Inc. (King, Inc.) and OpenAI have worked together to address how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s likeness is represented in Sora generations. Some users generated disrespectful depictions of Dr. King’s image. So at King, Inc.’s request, OpenAI has paused generations depicting Dr. King as it strengthens guardrails for historical figures,” OpenAI said on X.
Futurism reports that in the latest controversy surrounding Sora 2, it was used to depict a Black woman selling $2,500 a month in food stamps for cash. This comes at a time when 42 million Americans were projected to lose food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as a result of the federal government shutdown, now the second-longest in U.S. history.
The Trump administration intends to make partial payments, at 50%, for food benefits in November after an Oct. 31 order from federal judges, the HuffPost reports.
“Imma keep it real with you, I get over $2,500 a month in stamps,” the AI-generated woman said in the video, according to Futurism. “I sell ’em, $2,000 worth, for about $1,200-1,500 cash. That’s why everybody’s upset. Folks say we’re taking advantage, but that’s how we get by.”
One user on social media commented, “This [isn’t] about feeding their kids this [is] about getting their hair and nails done.”
Mila Joy, a right-wing influencer with over 427,000 followers on X, wrote, per Futurism, “What an absolute SCAM.”
The video gained nearly 500,000 views in a now-deleted TikTok post and has been viewed over 1.7 million times total.
This comes at a time when AI continues to generate blatant misinformation about underserved communities. In addition to fabricated narratives about SNAP fraud, which is incredibly rare, per WLBT 3, platforms are showing AI-generated videos with racist and stereotypical depictions of disadvantaged people that can perpetuate these myths.
