The ability to create custom GPTs is still limited to paid subscribers
What’s the story
OpenAI now allows ChatGPT free users to enjoy a range of features previously exclusive to paid subscribers — ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and Enterprise.
These include access to custom GPTs, model and web responses, data analytics, vision, chart creation, memory, and file upload.
However, while free users can discover and use custom GPTs ranging from an on-demand thesaurus to an Ikea shopping guide, they cannot create their own yet.
Revenue sharing scheme for custom GPT makers
OpenAI has also introduced a revenue-sharing scheme for creators of custom GPTs, which was initially tested in March.
This allows makers to potentially earn from their creations when users interact.
In addition, the new data analytics and chart creation features enable users to link OneDrive and Google Drive data to ChatGPT for quicker analysis and customizable charts.
Limitations and exclusions for free users
Despite the new features, free users of ChatGPT still face certain limitations.
They will encounter message limits when using GPT-4o, and upon reaching these limits, their conversations will automatically revert to GPT-3.5.
Additionally, the controversial Sky voice feature has been removed from all user tiers due to its striking resemblance to Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the film Her.
Other voices on ChatGPT, including Breeze, Cove, Juniper, and Ember, remain available for use.
