ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot used by millions worldwide, is now fully functional once again. Developed by the Sam Altman AI startup – OpenAI, ChatGPT suffered a brief outage that started early in the morning at around 6 AM IST and lasted for around three hours.
The outage impacted ChatGPT’s Record Mode, the popular text-to-video generation model Sora and Codex, the company’s cloud-based engineering agent. According to Downdetector, the website that monitors the real-time status of various online services, thousands of users, including some from India, reported that they were unable to use ChatGPT.

While some users said that they were getting a message that says “unusual activity detected”, others were hit by slow loading times and no replies from the AI chatbot. As it turns out, users were also unable to use Sora and Codex. ChatGPT users took to the microblogging platform X, claiming they were seeing blank chat screens and chats terminating mid-conversation, while some added that they were unable to log in.

OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its status page at 8:19 AM IST and said they were seeing “elevated error rates on ChatGPT Record mode, Sora and Codex.”
Almost three and a half hours after users reported the outage, OpenAI posted an update on its status page claiming “All impacted services have now fully recovered”. Following the announcement, users stopped reporting about ChatGPT not working and at the time of writing, everything seems to be working as intended.
This is the second time this month ChatGPT was down or not working for many. The AI chatbot suffered a similar outage last week, which also prevented users from using the service.
