In this post, we will show you how to create a video with Copilot AI. If you’ve been using Microsoft Copilot mainly for drafting emails, summarizing content, or analyzing data, there’s a powerful new feature you probably haven’t heard about yet. Copilot AI now allows you to create professional-looking videos in just a few minutes, simply by describing what you want.
Microsoft introduced the Visual Creator agent as part of its Copilot experience. Initially focused on generating visuals and designs using natural language prompts, the tool now, in collaboration with Microsoft Clipchamp, allows users to generate video content. However, unlike OpenAI’s Sora, which aims at creating hyper-realistic movie-like visuals, Copilot AI focuses on quick, professional-looking business videos, such as explainers, training, and marketing content.
How to create video with Copilot AI
To create a video with Copilot AI, you require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The feature is currently only available to commercial users with an Entra ID account. It is not included in Copilot Pro (for personal accounts).
Here’s a step-by-step guide for creating a video using Copilot AI:
- Open Visual Creator
- Type your prompt
- Review the draft video
- Edit the video in Clipchamp (optional)
- Export and share
Let us see this in detail.
1] Open Visual Creator
Go to copilot.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work account. You can also access Copilot via Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Teams, etc.).
Click Visual Creator in the right panel.
2] Type your prompt
On the main screen of the Visual Creator, you’ll see some example prompts. These prompts help you get started with your video creation process.
Go to the prompt box at the bottom and type your prompt. For example, you can type:
“Create a 60–90 second video introducing our new employee learning program focused on Artificial Intelligence. The program is designed to help employees understand the fundamentals of AI, explore its business use cases, and apply AI tools like Microsoft Copilot in their daily work. Highlight key benefits such as self-paced learning, interactive modules, and certification upon completion. The tone should be modern, inspiring, and employee-friendly. Include visuals related to AI, corporate training, and professional growth. Add upbeat background music and a professional voiceover.”
The more detailed your prompt, the better the result.
Press Enter. Copilot will analyze your prompt, generate a script, select matching stock footage, add voiceover, and create a preview of the video.
Note: Copilot’s Visual Creator uses stock video content from Microsoft’s media library to generate AI videos. If suitable footage isn’t available to match your script, the resulting video may include mismatched or irrelevant visuals.
3] Review the draft video
Within a few seconds, you’ll receive the first draft of your AI video. Click the Play button to preview the draft.
4] Edit the video in Clipchamp (optional)
To make edits in the draft, you can open the video in Clipchamp, Microsoft’s built-in video editor.
Open OneDrive for business and go to My files > Videos > Clipchamp.
You’ll see a list of videos that have been created using Copilot AI. Open the desired folder, and then double-click the video file to open it in the Clipchamp video editor.
Clipchamp supports editing all the elements in the video, including text, audio, and stock footage. Zoom out the timeline to see different assets and make desired changes to the video.
5] Export and share
Once you’re happy with the video, click the Export button in the top-right corner. Specify the required details in the Export video dialogue (file name, quality, location) and click Export.
The next tab shows export in progress, with a preview of the final video. Do not close the tab until the process is finished. Once done, you’ll see the options to publish, share, or download the video.
That’s all! I hope you find this useful.

Can I create a video using AI?
Modern AI tools such as OpenAI’s Sora and Microsoft’s Copilot AI now allow you to easily and quickly create AI videos using simple textual prompts. These tools use stock footage, AI-generated voiceovers, music, and text overlays to automatically generate visually engaging videos that align with your script or idea.
Can Copilot create visuals?
Copilot AI can create visuals depending on which version you’re using and what app you’re in. In apps like Microsoft Designer, Copilot can generate custom images, graphics, and social media visuals using text prompts. In PowerPoint, Copilot can create slide designs and suggest visuals or insert relevant stock images. Also, with the new Visual Creator agent, Copilot can now also generate short video content using natural language prompts.
However, Copilot doesn’t generate original artwork from scratch like DALL·E or Midjourney. It relies on stock media or built-in templates, not fully AI-drawn visuals.
