OpenAI ChatGPT 5 launch: Release date, upgrades, pricing and everything expected

If we say that OpenAI started the AI race, it wouldn’t be untrue. Especially when we consider how, as soon as ChatGPT was introduced, the tech world became flooded with other competitive options. We have Microsoft’s CoPilot, Google’s Gemini, and the recently introduced Meta’s Llama. However, with all the new options, OpenAI’s GPT might feel a bit behind, especially given that the last major upgrade was launched in March 2023 with GPT-4. However, this might not be the case for long, as all eyes are now on GPT-5.

OpenAI’s founder and CEO, Sam Altman, has already announced that GPT-5 is coming, but when it’s coming and what it will bring remains to be seen. However, there are already rumours and speculation hinting at what we can expect. Let’s take a detailed look.

When is GPT 5 releasing?

Considering the previous launch of GPT-4, initial speculation suggested that since OpenAI had worked on it for two years, it was possible that GPT-5 might arrive in 2925. However, this timeline was cut short by another report from Business Insider, which suggested that OpenAI could announce GPT-5 as early as the summer of 2024.

Interestingly, the anticipation surrounding the launch of GPT recently intensified, hinting that OpenAI might unveil GPT-5 on April 22, which happens to be Sam Altman’s birthday. Although no announcement was made on the 22 April, recent reports now suggest that OpenAI is likely to launch GPT-5 on April 23.

Meanwhile, there are also speculations that instead of GPT-5, OpenAI might release an intermediate version, GPT-4.5, before unveiling GPT-5. This model could offer improved performance, a larger context window, and more recent training data. OpenAI is also likely to unveil other products this year, including the anticipated AI voice product, Voice Engine, and potentially another AI language model.

GPT 5 speculated features

Now as for what to expect from the new gen LLM from Open AI, CEO Sam Altman has mentioned that GPT-5 will be “materially better” than the current model and will likely have more parameters, potentially exceeding the 1.5 trillion parameters in GPT-4. Additionally, GPT-5 is expected to be a state-of-the-art language model, enhancing reasoning abilities and making interactions feel more like conversations with a person rather than a machine.

The GPT 5 is also likely to be multimodal, meaning it can take input from more than just text, potentially including images, videos, and other forms of data. OpenAI’s focus on agents may lead to GPT-5’s ability to handle tasks, perform real-world actions, and connect to various services autonomously. This could pave the way for AI systems capable of managing everyday tasks such as booking flights, creating spreadsheets, or even handling grocery shopping based on user preferences.

GPT 5 pricing

Right now the free version of ChatGPT is powered by GPT-3.5, an older model. If you wish to utilise OpenAI’s latest model, you’ll need to subscribe to the $20 per month plan. Based on the existing trend, it appears that GPT-5 will probably follow a similar paywall approach and offer the GPT 5 at subscription basis.
