Authoritative science content and research intelligence hub John Wiley & Sons Inc. said today it’s launching an artificial intelligence-native platform that provides researchers access to trusted peer-reviewed papers and articles from scholarly publications.
The new platform, dubbed the Wiley AI Gateway, will act as a single endpoint for accessing AI research by consolidating research articles and data subscriptions. The company said it would integrate advanced academic knowledge with today’s leading AI platforms, including Anthropic PBC’s Claude, Mistral AI SAS’ Le Chat, Perplexity Inc. and the Amazon Web Services Inc. marketplace.
“As AI adoption among researchers surged from 57% to 84% in just one year, we recognized the need to meet them where they work — creating infrastructure that ensures AI-powered research is grounded in validated scholarly sources,” said Jay Flynn, executive vice president and general manager, research and learning at Wiley.
The company said the new gateway will convert research and expert content into formats optimized for AI, while preserving citations, context and peer-review validation.
Researchers, university labs, corporate research and development teams, and AI engineers will benefit from this new integration as a conduit to accelerate innovation cycles by receiving access to up-to-date research across the AI tools they use in their work.
Publishers, including Sage Publications Inc. and the American Society for Microbiology, will be joining the network, with additional world-class publishers also participating to form this industry-wide solution for AI-powered research.
“Researchers can now seamlessly combine trusted scientific literature with Claude’s analytical capabilities — from statistical analysis to code generation — unlocking entirely new research workflows while maintaining the rigorous standards that scientific discovery demands,” said Lauren Collett, who leads higher education partnerships at Anthropic.
The company said the AI gateway is currently supporting significant scientific initiatives, including the European Space Agency’s Phi-Lab. This initiative aims to integrate scholarly content into the Earth Virtual Expert AI assistant, which will merge research expertise with knowledge of Earth observation. Wiley also collaborated with AWS to launch a generative AI agent for scientific literature search.
Wiley said the new gateway would be accessible through the Model Context Protocol, a standard for connecting AI models to third-party data, so that developers can swiftly build tools that can understand, synthesize and cite peer-reviewed research accurately.
