Rajat and Chirag Arya, co-founders of 169Pi.AI, started their journey as keen observers of the AI revolution. They had prior experience in building software solutions, especially in blockchain for US-based clients. The turning point came in 2023 when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s visit to India sparked discussions about AI innovation in the country. A specific controversy around large language models fueled their interest in building a more India-centric AI model.

Why 169Pi? The Meaning Behind the Name

The startup’s name, 169Pi.AI, is derived from mathematical concepts:
169 is the square of 13.

Pi (π) represents the well-known mathematical ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.

India’s First AI Model – A ‘Desi’ Approach

The Arya brothers noticed that most AI models were Western-oriented, often lacking an Indian perspective.

They saw an opportunity to create AI that better represents Bharat’s data, language, and knowledge systems.

Arya Brother’s Product “Alpie”

Alpie is a powerful AI assistant designed to enhance productivity and streamline complex workflows—all for free. ISRO Becomes an Early User of 169Pi.AI

One of 169Pi.AI’s first major users is ISRO, India’s space agency.
ISRO is testing their PDF agent, an AI-powered tool that structures large volumes of data. “They have tonnes of data which need to be structured. So we created a PDF agent for that. Suppose you dump tens of thousands of files in our program, it will structure the data with the help of AI,” explains Rajat Arya.

The PDF agent’s impact has been significant, helping ISRO organize complex information efficiently.

What Makes the PDF Agent Unique?

“The PDF agent stands out by delivering streamlined, explainable AI responses that consistently outperform human capabilities across diverse knowledge-driven tasks.”

The scientist requested anonymity, as he is not the official spokesperson for his organization.

What’s Next for 169Pi.AI?

With a Forbes 30 Under 30 recognition, Arya Brothers are driving India’s AI revolution by building globally competitive models that optimize compute resources for efficiency and sustainability. Their AI is reaching the next frontier in reasoning, setting new benchmarks across domains. Exciting times lie ahead as 169Pi prepares to launch leading AI models and frameworks this year.
