At the seminar “Safe AI – Shaping Responsible Innovation” held in Hanoi on December 5, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) announced the establishment of the AI Ethics Committee, which aims to guide Vietnam’s AI development, ensuring that it adheres to ethical standards, fosters innovation alongside social benefits, and creates a favorable legal environment for AI.

The seminar featured prominent participants, including Professor Yoshua Bengio – a pioneer of modern AI, Chairman and Founder of FPT Corporation Truong Gia Binh, and leaders from VINASA member companies.
In addition to developing policies and risk assessment standards, the AI Ethics Committee will serve as a bridge for international cooperation and provide advisory support to the Vietnamese government in AI development.
Globally, efforts to establish stringent AI regulations and ethical frameworks are gaining momentum, such as the EU’s AI Act, OECD’s AI Principles, and UNESCO’s recommendations on ethical AI. The launch of Vietnam’s AI Ethics Committee demonstrates the country’s strong commitment to joining the global community in addressing the complex challenges and opportunities posed by AI.
Nguyen Tu Quang, Vice Chairman of VINASA and Chairman of the AI Ethics Committee, emphasized the importance of legal and ethical frameworks to ensure sustainable and effective AI development.
“These frameworks are not about control but about guidance, helping AI reach its full potential while mitigating negative impacts. They also provide a pathway for sustainable technological advancement aligned with societal values,” Quang explained.
Professor Yoshua Bengio, founder of the AI research institute Mila, praised the initiative, stating: “The establishment of the AI Ethics Committee is a crucial step in guiding Vietnam toward an AI future aligned with global standards of transparency, accountability, and societal benefits.”
Truong Gia Binh underscored the committee’s primary goal of raising public awareness about the challenges humanity faces in the age of AI. However, he stressed that spreading this knowledge is not about limiting AI’s growth but about calling on developers to act responsibly and adhere to “heartfelt” commitments.
“The AI Ethics Committee initiated by VINASA exemplifies Vietnam’s vision of taking on a leadership role in the era of Artificial Intelligence. As AI evolves rapidly, bringing unprecedented opportunities and challenges, the need for responsible governance is more urgent than ever,” Binh noted.
